Colt
Molloy, our "Texas State Record Holding
Strike-out King" pitched against the Shamrock High School "Fighting Irish"
on Tuesday afternoon April 4th 2007. Colt struck out two in the first
inning, and when our "lefty" came to bat in the bottom of the 1st inning,
with a man on second, promptly slammed a drive over the left centerfield
fence. The ball was last seen headed towards the Briscoe County Line. Our
"Strike-out King" holds a .613 batting average. Just imagine a Mickey Mantle
who also has a 91-96 mph fastball, an 80-85 mph slider, and a 65-70 mph
change-up. Although I'm a Houston Astros Fan, the New York Yankees were my boyhood favorites. I get all goose bumpily just thinking about Colt Molloy pitching in Yankee Stadium, and having our "lefty" coming to bat with that short right field porch. (308 feet down the first base line) Colt struck out two more "Irish" in the second inning. Colt came to bat in the 2nd inning and slashed a screaming double to right center field. I asked the umpire if I could have the cover of that baseball for a souvenir. Colt struck out the side in 3rd inning. Four Leaf Clovers are very "lucky" for the Irish, and apparently so is the 4th inning. Coach Yarborough called for a "first pitch change-up" to the 1st batter in the top of the 4th. Colt's "change-up" must have looked like a "softball on a string" as the ball "hung" before the hitter's wide eyes. I'm pretty sure I heard the Irishman say, "Bless ye Laddie" as he walloped a white bullet down the third base line. The Texas State Record 5 game "no hits," "no runs" belongs to our own Hall County Native Colt Molloy . Most of you may already know that our Internationally Famous Pitchers Nolan Ryan, and Roger "The Rocket" are also Texas Native Sons. We now have three Texas Native Sons, and "only" Colt Molloy holds the Texas State Record for having pitched 5 complete "no-no's," including one "Perfect Game."
